Who: A student that was chosen as student of the month.

What: Chosen as student of the month.

How: The principal announced it on the speakers.

Last week, Riley Hughes was chosen as the student of the month by the principal and teachers. This was announced over the innercom in the beginning of first period right after the pledge. The student of the month is chosen based on grades, attendance, and teacher recommendations.

It is important for many students in High School because it increases their chances of getting into college. Only 8 students are chosen every year as student of the month, so it is very competitive.Students that achieve this need to be highly recommended by their teachers, have good attendance, good grades, and need to be involved with many school activities.

Riley hughes was picked out of hundreds of students as Student of the Month. "She is a great student and it's not surprising she was chosen," Susan Leos, interim prinicpal, said. Many of Riley's peers also agreed that she was one of several students that would definitely deserve to be selected.

"There are many students here at Bowie. The characteristics that Riley obtains, is what we want at our school" Interim Principal Susan Leos said. Leos thinks that it is rare for students to be so committed and that she is proud of Hughes.

"She is so sweet and committed to her work in my class. I always see her going at it, getting things done," Math teacher Mrs. Dobrenel stated. Mrs. Dobrenel was not surprised when Riley was selected Student of the month. She was delighted to hear it and congratulated Hughes at school.

Overall, most students and administrators admitted that Hughes deserved to be elected as student of the month. She works hard to get good grades, she works well with others and has high respect for her teachers. If a student wants to be the next student of the month, Riley is a great example of what they should try to accomplish academically and attitude wise.
